Taking flight - the Modern Lute is on the way to its new home
It took a while, testament to the conservative bent of guitar players. Even just getting someone to try it was almost impossible.
Granted, it is an unusual shape, hard to photograph due to its extreme carve that wraps itself around the player's body. But it sits solidly and comfortably in a way very few guitars do.
It is a spectacular instrument, with resonance, tone and playability rivaling the very best the guitar world out there has to offer. Endless sustain and a rich palette of sound variations await the new owner. We hope it will provide him with many years of joy and inspiration!
Off the bench - the hybrid doubleneck Q1801 AB has left for its new home...
An era is ending - after 30 years and 350 Totemguitars, the last Totem has been added to the roster. Read more here: G2501 "The Last Totem"
'The Guitar Barrel Project'
The discovery of a cache of large wine barrels from the estate of the Marqués de Pombal in Lisbon, dating back to the time of the 1755 earthquake that destroyed the city and kicked off the age of enlightenment was a fortuitous find.
Old-growth Mahogany from the Brazilian colonies, seasoned and suffused with the aroma of the countless vintages that had matured in these barrels. Exceptional wood with a rich historical context, now repurposed into special instruments by six luthiers.
The documentary "The Guitar Barrel Project", shot during the building process documents the story of the wood and the creation of these extraordinary guitars.
